TRAMASS (Translation, transcreation and cultural mediation as tools for inclusion in the field of health information and services) is a project within the framework of the “Global challenges and industrial competitiveness” pillar of the Spanish State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation (PEICTI) 2021-2023.
TRAMASS focuses on transcreation with an inclusive perspective and its ability to build bridges between peoples and cultures and facilitate access to health information for migrant communities living in Spain. By transcreation we refer to a type of text creation in which both the words and the meaning of the original texts can be seriously modified in order to produce the same effect on the target audience as on the original audience, taking into account that there are not only linguistic but also cultural differences between the two audiences.
Since access to health information and services is a sensitive issue, as the lack of information in this area can place migrants in a more vulnerable situation, it is necessary to address the linguistic and cultural barriers that migrants have to face. Therefore, the main objective of this project is to design transcreational strategies for linguistic and cultural adaptation of health information materials and resources for migrant communities, as well as to establish a protocol of good practices to facilitate the access of this population group to health information and services, with an inclusive and gender perspective.
